Okay, well my spare time today to write more editorial has been completely sucked away by basketball-reference’s new toy, the Elo Player Rater.

It pits players with similar statistics against each other and you pick which one you think is better. My god, about the most addictive thing I’ve ever come across on the internet, which is saying something.

There’s going to be some fascinating analysis to come out of this.

    • I’ve calmed down a bit today (obviously or I wouldn’t have published the Hollinger piece), but yesterday I probably did like 300 comparisons. Literally one of those things where you look up at a clock and think “I can’t have been doing this for THAT long can I?”.

      • It’s freakishly addictive, even if you skip the players you’re unsure about ,you still find yourself thinking “Just one more”…

        It does seem to cycle through a lot of the same players though…
